Fairy Bread

Fairy Bread was traditionally served at children's parties in Australia & New Zealand. We always had Fairy Bread growing up (a party was not a party without fairy bread).

Fairy Bread is sliced white bread, buttered and then pressed buttered side down into hundreds and thousands also known as sprinkles or sugar strands. The hundreds and thousands stick to the butter then the bread is sliced into triangles. I cut the crust off, as the kids tend to leave it.

Fairy bread is delicious, colorful and fun to make. The kids love getting involved and helping to make it!!

Ingredients

Loaf of bread (how ever many slices you wish to make)

Butter

100's & 1000's (sprinkles or sugar threads)

Method

1. Purchase some Party Bread or a white sliced loaf of bread.

2. Pour some 100’s & 1000’s into shallow dish.

3. Butter a slice of bread then cut the crusts off. If you are using Party Bread fold both ends toward the centre, then cut the bread in the middle (you will end up with 2 squares).

4. Then cut the bread into triangles (either 2 or 4 depending on the size of the bread and the children).

5. Place the buttered triangles buttered side down into the 100’s & 1000’s and press down lightly.

6. Then place the triangles onto the serving plate and repeat until you have made enough for your guests.

7. Once you have finished making the fairy bread, cover with cling film to prevent the bread from drying out.

8. Serve and enjoy!

Please Note You can use what ever bread you prefer. A standard square loaf will also suffice.
